Trams, buses, taxis, the airport shuttle and trains: practical information to choose your transport and plan each journey.

The Rabat–Salé tram

The network has two lines, L1 and L2. Find your destination, station and direction on the official network map. The tram is useful when both ends of your journey are near a station; you may need to walk the last part.

A ticket costs MAD 7. It is valid for one hour after first validation, with transfers to the other line and validation whenever you board. Digital tickets also cost MAD 7. The MAD 10 Tram’Bus ticket combines the tram and bus line 30.

  1. Buy before boarding: machine, kiosk, authorised seller or Tram mobile app.
  2. Check the tram’s direction and validate your ticket onboard.
  3. Keep it until you leave your arrival station.

For the Mohammed VI Museum, the operator lists Mohammed V – Gare de Rabat. For Hassan Tower and the mausoleum: Place du 16 Novembre or Pont Hassan II. Allow extra time to walk from the station to the entrance.

ALSA buses: Rabat, Salé and Témara

Buses complement the tram for neighbourhoods and routes beyond its stations. ALSA’s website helps plan journeys from your starting point to your destination, with lines, schedules and fares. Check the bus destination and the correct side of the road for your stop.

There is no single fare to assume for every journey. The operator’s FAQ says the price depends on the buses used and suburban travel distance. Check your line’s fare and keep the ticket. Do not assume that changing buses is free.

For frequent travel, ALSA lists monthly passes at MAD 260 for zone 1 and MAD 300 for zone 2, plus a MAD 40 card fee. Compare the included lines with your needs before buying a pass.

Petit taxi or grand taxi?

Rabat’s petit taxis are blue and serve journeys within the city. They can be useful for direct trips, luggage or a destination far from a station. Give the exact address or place name and ask for the meter to be used. Confirm the applicable tariff, especially at night.

At the airport, use the official grand taxi rank. ONDA lists a rank outside Rabat-Salé Airport. Confirm the destination, total fare and what it includes before boarding. When taking a grand taxi elsewhere, ask whether the quoted price is for one seat or the entire vehicle; do not assume the same arrangements as a petit taxi.

Keep your accommodation name and address available offline. For Salé or the airport, choose transport suitable for that connection rather than relying on a Rabat urban petit taxi.

The Rabat-Salé Airport bus

ALSA advertises a shuttle between Rabat-Salé Airport and Rabat Agdal station: MAD 25 per passenger one way, or MAD 40 return, valid for 15 days. Buy onboard or at the airport kiosk; card payment is accepted onboard. Journey time is approximately 45–50 minutes.

Departures vary by day and direction. Check the official timetable for your travel date, especially for late arrivals: the service does not operate continuously 24 hours a day. Allow for waiting, traffic and your airline’s required airport arrival margin.

To continue to Rabat Ville, the medina or your hotel, confirm which stop your chosen departure serves and plan the onward journey. Rabat Agdal and Rabat Ville are different stations; do not select a departure using only the word “Rabat”.

Train stations and Al Boraq high-speed rail

Rabat’s high-speed train station is Rabat Agdal. ONCF lists Al Boraq stops at Casa Voyageurs, Rabat Agdal, Kénitra and Tangier. Select “Rabat Agdal”, your date and your train when booking. Prices and availability depend on the departure, class and ticket conditions.

Rabat Ville is the city-centre station and may be more convenient for continuing a visit on foot. For conventional trains, check the station actually offered on ONCF Voyages. Rabat Ville and Rabat Agdal are not interchangeable on your ticket.

Check the station name before booking a taxi or planning a Maps route, then check the train number, time and platform at the station. Keep your ticket and identification. Allow a margin for connections with the airport shuttle: an indicative journey time does not guarantee a connection.

Frequently asked questions

Does the tram reach the airport?

The airport connection described here is ALSA’s shuttle to Rabat Agdal. Do not plan a direct tram journey to the terminal.

Can I board a tram without buying a ticket first?

Buy before boarding; tickets are not sold onboard. Validate whenever you board, including when transferring between lines.

Which station should I choose for Al Boraq?

Rabat Agdal. Make sure that exact name appears on your high-speed train booking.

Do I need a pass for a short visit?

Compare your planned journeys with individual tickets first. A pass is useful only if its lines and validity match your stay.
